WVILLIAM T., PARKER, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
ADJUSTABLE LID-HOLDER FOR BOXES.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 628,031 dated July 4, 1899.
Application filed June 2, 1898. Serial No. 682,336. (No model.)
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM T. PARKER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Adjustable Lid-Holders for Boxes, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
My invention relates to adjustable lid-holders for boxes; and it consists in a construction thereof by which such holder can be conveniently applied to a box-and will hold the lid in any position desired.
This holder consists, essentially, of two clamps adapted to be attached one fixedly to the body of the box and the other adjustably to the lid, which clamps are joined by a connecting-bar hinged at each end to one of them.
Referring to theaccompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view of a corner of a cigar-box with mylidho1der applied thereto, and Fig. 2 is a perspective view from another point of view of the holder alone in a different position.
A is the fixed clamp, which'consists of a plate slit part way up the middle and has the metal on each side of the slit bent outward, forming a slot of the width of the thickness of the side of the box, and is turned over at the top in a lip which rests on the end of the box. To this clamp is attached the-toothed lock B, which holds the clamp firmly to the side of the box, and also the bar 0, on the other end of which is hinged the clamp D, which fits loosely on the edge of the lid and is held thereon in any position'desired by the toothed lock E, holding the lid accordingly.
In applying the holder to a box the fixed clamp A is slipped over the side of the box to which the lid is attached and fastened by its lock B. The sliding clamp D is slipped over the edge of the lid, and when that is opened to the position desired this clamp is fastened in position by its lock E, holding the lid firmly. The lid may be closed without removing the holder.
I claim as my invention- 1. A holder for a box-lid comprising a part A, slit vertically and having the metal on each side of the slit bent outward forming a slot of the width of the thickness of the side of the box and forming a flange on each side of. said slot and having its top bent into a lip adapted to engage with the upper edge of the side of 5 5 a box and having an eccentric lock adapted to hold it firmly in place, and a part D adapted to fit adjustably over the edge of a box-lid and having an eccentric lock adapted to hold it firmly in place thereon, and a bar 0 pivotally connected to parts A and D substantially and a part D adapted to fit adj ustably over the edge of the lid of a box and having an eccentric toothed lock adapted to hold it firmly in place thereon, and a bar 0 pivotally connected to parts A and D substantially as specified.
3. A holder for a box-lid comprising a part A slit vertically and having the metal on each side of the slit bent outward forming a slot of the width of the thickness of the side of the box and forming a flange on each side of said slot and having its top bentinto a lip adapted to engage with the upper edge of the side of a box and having an eccentric lock adapted to clamp it firm-1y in place on a box, and a part D adapted to fit adjustably over the edge of the lid of a box and having an eccentric lock adapted to hold it firmly in place thereon, and a bar 0 pivotally connected to part A back of the box and to part D above the lid,
substantially as specified.
WILLIAM T. PARKER.
