‘Rules of Engagement’ Star Bianca Kajlich Sells Venice Cottage (EXCLUSIVE)

Bianca Kajlich, one of the co-stars of the ensemble series “Rules of Engagement,” has sold an extensively renovated and thoughtfully expanded 1940s cottage on the border between Marina del Rey and Venice, Calif., for slightly less than $2.9 million, a good bit above its not much more than $2.7 million asking price. Kajlich, star of the three-season “Undateable” series, paid not quite $1.3 million for the property in late 2010, about a year after she split with her first husband, professional soccer player Landon Donovan, and almost two years before she married her current husband, radio personality Michael Catherwood.

Completely hidden on a corner parcel behind a forbiddingly tall hedge, the just shy of 2,000-square-foot home has four bedrooms and three bathrooms. With ashy brown wide-plank floorboards underfoot and a vaulted ceiling pierced by a handful of skylights, the light-filled combination living-dining room opens through a broad glass slider to a tree-shaded deck and outdoor living room with a water feature and a postage stamp-size patch of grass. The kitchen, open to the dining area over a short snack peninsula with two stools suspended like swings from the ceiling, remains true to the house’s architectural roots with a classic black-and-white color scheme and an immaculately restored vintage range.

There are three guest and family bedrooms on the main floor, one of them with an en suite bathroom painted girlishly pink and finished with a marble tile floor and a massive farmhouse-style sink. The second floor is devoted to the master suite and includes a bedroom with vaulted ceiling, French doors to a private terrace and a bathroom lined in geometric, Hopi-inspired blue and white tiles. Behind the house there’s a detached two-car garage and a slender strip of faux-grassed yard where, per listing details, permitted plans would allow for a swimming pool.
