A RECIPE BOOK WITH A BIG DIFFERENCE
groupie-gran· Review provided by ebay.com · December 1, 2024
An amazing array of recipes from 1900 - 1980. I follow this young man on YouTube and when I noticed he had bought out a book, I just had to have it, sight unseen. I watch him every night, the videos are not long, usually in the short format, but boy does he make me laugh. He is such a character. The recipes in here are a mix of really good to really bad BUT it is recipes throughout the above time schedule. So some you would be afraid to make but it is fantastic reading about them. On the other hand, many of the recipes have unbelievable ingredients but taste absolutely wonderful. Being very old, I remember the 60s and 70s when I was cooking for my family and can't believe I made such dishes. Just proves food follows what is in food fashion at that time. On YouTube he makes each recipe and eats them, rather taste them and you know by his expressive face whether they are nice or nasty. So many surprises, so many really good and the others that are nasty are more in the time frame of wars when food was hard to get, rationing was in operation and substitutes had to be found. Again, it is really interesting reading about them so you could call it an historical book since it covers 9 decades. Anyone who really loves food I would recommend you buy this.
A great start for those who dont have family recipes that have been passed down

I love the variety of recipes and the way they’re organized. The photos are beautiful and give you a great idea of what end results should look like. Nothing seems fussy and I even found a few recipes with treats I grew up with. While some of the recipes seeming a little unconventional, I do appreciate the paragraph talking about his experience and thoughts while making the dish. One of them definitely acknowledged that while yes, this seems crazy, it did indeed turn out well. I’m more likely to try some of the recipes after reading the authors notes.
A great, unique cookbook

I love this cookbook! It's full of really interesting recipes that are packed with techniques and ingredients that aren't super popular right now. Easy to follow and full of pictures. A great tool for someone who wants to expand their baking knowledge, while also being suitable for beginners. I love the little history introductions at the beginning of each decade.

I started out watching Mr. Hollis's videos on social media and enjoyed them greatly. I have made several of the recipes that I watched on those platforms. you can imagine my excitement when he announced he was coming out with a cookbook. As soon as I received it, I began reading it and flipping through the pages of recipes. Mr. Hollis has found a way to bring the same energy into this cookbook that you find in his videos online. I was also delighted to see that some of the recipes that I had tried were also on the cookbook.
